It's Spring!!!

Well, It's been Spring, but today really felt like it so I got to wear my grandma shorts! I love them so much no matter how awkward and red they are. They make me happy :) And I was brave enough to wear my feather headband inspired by Kinley from last seasons project runway except you cant really see it in this picture. But it looks like this:
All in all today was a good day...Another week of work, yikes! Also this week I will be cat sitting a co-workers cat, Abigail. And by cat sitting I mean, feeding her breakfast in the mornings :)

P.S. I already know what I want for my birthday...A camera that doesnt have a phone attached to it

Work today was sloooowwwww...I'm getting more and more fearful of losing my job all together. Everyday I cash so many unemployment checks for people who have familys to support. Its really sad...and scary.

Over the weekend...

Sunday I went home to hang out with the mom. We went to the movies and saw I Love You Man (Paul Rudd is such a hottie) and on Monday we went to Morongo. We did quite a few laps around the casino but mostly played penny slots and video roulette. I only lost $7 at the end of the day so I didnt feel too bad :) And now for the super-crappy-lame-blah news... I got my work schedule for April and they cut my hours soooo much. The Credit Union is trying to save money so there go my hours. I dont know what I'm going to do...either find a cheaper place to live or a second job (both will be hard to do around here.) Anyways...Heather has plans to come out on the 18th and spend the night. I have my friend back for a day! I cant wait to go out with her.. Its been like a year.

I've kind of been lagging on Project 365 but thats only because I've been wearing boring outfits lately (ex. jeans and a sweatshirt). This will be my number 8. The Braid.

Lately it has become a permanent fixture on my head. I suppose its my way of throwing "hippie-chic" into my everyday life....

Seven

Last night consisted of some impromptu drinks at the Reno Room and a lesson in how to successfully keep your seat at the bar while using the restroom from a 60 year old man.

Collage Artists

A collage (From the French: coller, to glue) is a work of formal art, primarily in the visual arts, made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole. Use of this technique made its dramatic appearance among oil paintings in the early 20th century as an art form of groundbreaking novelty.

An artistic collage work may include newspaper clippings, ribbons, bits of colored or hand-made papers, portions of other artwork, photographs, and such, glued to a piece of paper or canvas.

Techniques of collage were first used at the time of the invention of paper in China around 200 BC. The use of collage, however, remained very limited until the 10th century in Japan, when calligraphers began to apply glued paper, using texts on surfaces, when writing their poems.[1]

The technique of collage appeared in medieval Europe during the 13th century. Gold leaf panels started to be applied in Gothic cathedrals around the 15th and 16th centuries. Gemstones and other precious metals were applied to religious images, icons, and also, to coats of arms.[1]

In the 19th century, collage methods also were used among hobbyists for memorabilia (i.e. applied to photo albums) and books (i.e. Hans Christian Andersen, Carl Spitzweg).[1]

The term collage derives from the French "coller" meaning "glue".[2] This term was coined by both Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso in the beginning of the 20th century when collage became a distinctive part of modern art.

P.S.

Here's Day #4

(If you click on the pictures they are better quality)

LACMA

Today Blake and I went on an adventure to Downtown LA to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. We took the train from Downtown Long Beach and got to Downtown LA in about an hour.

Going through Compton it was really crazy seeing all of the trash and homeless people who had
set up camp along the tracks.

Once we got to LA we had to find a bus (which stunk like feet!) that would take us to the museum .

There were some really cool contemporary art exhibits and lots of neat architecture and sculptures.

I definitely want to go back with a better camera.

We decided to leave around 5 and apparently this is the prime bus riding hour because every bus that passed us was full and the bus we eventually got on was beyond full...We were packed in like sardines and had to stand the majority of the way with the sweet aroma of urine and feet and body odor, Mmmm.

Then we caught the train back to Long Beach which was a little less sketchy and we made it back to Blakes truck to find a parking ticket to end our adventure :)

(Please excuse the awkward layout...I still dont get it)

Crappiest Mall Ever

Okay, maybe not the crappiest, but kinda crappy. The Del Amo mall in Torrance was horribly difficult to navigate but they do have an Urban Outfitters, Anthropology, and XXI Forever (2 Stories!). Other then that, today was verrrrry uneventful.

Day #3

Obsession

I have a strange new obsession with Doilies ever since I saw the most amazing wall display at Anthropology. They were actually pretty hard to find but I got a package of different sizes at World Market and I want to hang them all over my room, and car, and desk at work. I'm not sure why I'm so drawn to them, but they're AMAZING!

(I've spent far too much time with the layout and I'm still not happy with it)

Project 365

For those of you who havent heard of Project 365, its when you take a picture of yourself everyday for a year and post it to see how you've changed. I decided to try this so I can see how my style changes through the months :) Hopefully I can keep up with it!
Sorry about the blurry picture but I have to use my camera phone....Note the scarf that I have to wear to hide my tattoo at work...Thats getting old.

Alexander McQueen @ Target

So I usually get pretty excited whenever Target gets a new designer to design a line for them because this will probably be the only time I'll ever be able to buy, without guilt, any item from such a person, but I'm especially excited about Alexander McQueens line! In my color theory class last semester I chose him for a research paper and as my inspiration for a perfume bottle/scent and he's really a talented lad. Buttttt...I'm slightly disapointed in the selection at Target. Everything is so bland. Its all a combo of preppy/Avril Lavigne/ Bondage and really gross. I found a couple of cute things but no "Must Haves" Bummer...Heres the link

And here are two of my favorite looks from his actual S/S 09' collection...

(Please excuse my hideous formatting..I'm still trying to master the blog)

The Smiths, Coachella, and Being a Socially Awkward Human Being

Okay. So I decided to go public with this thing. Why? I dont know, but it seems easier then filling people in with the boring details of my life because I am socially awkward...but we'll get to that later. Work has been painfully boring the last couple of months and its getting harder and harder to keep myself entertained. I spent the majority of my 7 1/2 hours on NME.com reading reviews of shows and singles. I read that Johnny Marr and Morrissey have been talking which hasnt happened in a great while and it looks like there will be a Smiths Reunion! It's been said many times, its almost like an urban legend. But that would be so amazing and I would sell my left arm to go to that show. As for Coachella..Im still debating whether or not Im going to go. But if I do...it will be Friday the 17th...and here is the line up:

Friday, April 17th

Alright, now on to being socially awkward. I've always known I was uber shy and quiet but not until I moved to Long Beach did I realize that I'm just plain awkward. I feel like I cant even hold a conversation for fear of saying something stupid which leads to me listening ...A LOT! I have things I'd like to talk about and I always have input and I feel that I'm a semi-intelligent girl, yet I say nothing. This results in a very lonely life. I need some sort of class, like Social Butterfly 101 or something. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

You Are What You Love

This is no great illusion
When i'm with you i'm looking for a ghost
Or invisible reasons to fall out of love
Or run screaming from our home
'Cause we live in a house of mirrors
We see our fears and everything's our songs, faces, and second-hand clothes
But more and more we're suffering, not nobody, not a thousand beers
Will keep us from feeling so all alone

But you are what you love
And not what loves you back
That's why i'm here on your doorstep
Pleading for you to take me back

And the phone is a fine invention
It allows me to talk endlessly to you
About nothing disguising my intentions
Which i'm afraid my friend are wildly untrue
It's a sleight of hand, a white soul band,
The heart attacks i'm convinced i have
Every morning upon waking
To you i'm a symbol or a monument
Your right of passage to fulfillment
But i'm not yours for the taking

But you are what you love
And not what loves you back
So i guess that's why you keep on
Calling me back

I'm fraudulent, a thief at best,
A coward who paints a bullshit canvas
Things that will never happen to me
And at arm's length, it's tim who said
I'm good at it, i've mastered it
Avoiding, avoiding everything

But you are what you love
Not what loves you back
And i'm in love with illusions so saw me in half
I'm in love with tricks
So pull another rabbit out of your hat
